INTRODUCTION

PIANO DUO, Liva - Stregapede

The piano duo Liva-Stregapede has been performing in concerts for more than a decade with the aim, among others, of popularising symphonic music in those cities which lack a musical institution devoted to that genre. The rediscovery of some original scores of the great composers has made possible, for example, the presentation of Beethoven’s Nine Symphonies in an unpublished version for two pianos and (a complete version from A.Casella’s transcriptions) for piano, four hands; of Brahms’ Symphonies for Two Pianos; of Liszt’s “Faust” and “Dante” symphonies; of Tchaikovsky’s symphonies; “Carmina Burana” by Carl Orff; Gershwin’s “An American in Paris”; etc. 

The duo devote a considerable part of their study to the performance and promotion of pieces which are seldom performed or which have become unjustly forgotten, involving well-known soloists to make-up larger ensembles for, for example, L. Dallapiccola’s “Music for Three Pianos” or for “Ballet mecanique” by G. Antheil (a piece which requires four pianos in all) or, again, Czerny’s concerto for piano, four hands and orchestra and the quartet for four pianos by the same composer.  In addition, they aim to popularise classical music in the schools, at all levels, supporting normal teaching activity and integrating lessons on concert music specifically designed for the musical education of youths and the very young.
